Into the Dragon’s Den at Silverburn, Glasgow
Eight teams of pupils from Glasgow schools near Silverburn Shopping Centre were invited by the centre team to take part in a Dragon’s Den competition.
Students were challenged to create a business plan and presentation on a new product or service that could be featured at Silverburn. The panel of judges would be assessing each team in the Designing, Launching & Selling stages closely judging key areas: product, business plan, pitfalls and presentation.
The students were not left to work alone as the Silverburn team was on hand to give some guidance to what they we were looking for. Members of the Silverburn Management team then presented to the pupils on what they think would make a successful business.
The pressure was on as the eight teams had 15 minutes to impress the panel of judges. They rose to the challenge leaving the team with a difficult task on their hands to choose the winning team. An evening reception held in front of friends and family to present their ideas added to pressure although all the teams displayed strong presentation and entrepreneurial skills.
The Silverburn team were thoroughly impressed by the excellent entrepreneurial skills and believed many of the proposals had the potential to go all the way and feature for sale one day.
The ‘Crystal Cups’ were eventually crowned winners, creating a product felt to be most likely to succeed if sold on the mall. The five girls behind this venture came up with the idea of personalising tea cups and saucers with crystals and also adding delicious pieces of homemade sugary tablet to each item.
The winning team took home a cheque for £100 and will now have the full support of the Silverburn Management team when they get the chance to show off their “Crystal Cups” idea on the mall.
